PREMIER LEAGUE 2025/26 SEASON KICKS OFF AS LIVERPOOL HOST BOURNEMOUTH

The 2025/26 Premier League season kicks off tonight after an 83-day break, with defending champions Liverpool opening their title defence against Bournemouth at Anfield in Matchweek 1’s curtain-raiser.

Following a record-breaking summer transfer window in which clubs spent over £2 billion, attention now turns to whether the high-profile signings can justify their hefty price tags. Liverpool led the spending spree with nearly £300 million in acquisitions, while Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City, and Manchester United also made major squad reinforcements.

Key Clubs and Signings

Liverpool: Mohamed Salah remains the focal point in attack, supported by captain Virgil van Dijk in defence. The champions’ big arrivals include record signing Florian Wirtz (£100–116m), striker Hugo Ekitike (£69–79m), Milos Kerkez, and Jeremie Frimpong.

Arsenal: Bukayo Saka and William Saliba headline the Gunners’ core, with Viktor Gyökeres (£55–63.5m) brought in to solve their long-standing striker issue and Martin Zubimendi adding steel to midfield. Other signings include Noni Madueke.

Manchester City: Erling Haaland remains a key threat, while Tijjani Reijnders (£46.3m) and Rayan Cherki bolster the midfield and attack alongside Rodri and Phil Foden.

Manchester United: Bruno Fernandes drives the team’s creativity, with Matheus Cunha (£62.5m) and Benjamin Šeško (£66m) brought in to sharpen their attack. Bryan Mbeumo also joins.

Chelsea: Kendry Páez and Cole Palmer bring flair and creativity, while João Pedro (£60m) strengthens the forward line. Jamie Gittens, Esteveao, and Liam Delap add depth.

Tottenham Hotspur: Mohammed Kudus joins for attacking dynamism, while João Palhinha arrives on loan to add midfield steel.

Newcastle United: Alexander Isak leads the line, with Bruno Guimarães orchestrating play and Anthony Elanga adding attacking width.

Aston Villa: Ollie Watkins remains the main goalscorer, while Youri Tielemans directs midfield play. Youngsters Evann Guessand and Yasin Özcan are tipped for impact.

Brighton & Hove Albion: Kaoru Mitoma’s dribbling flair and Pascal Groß’s intelligence continue to drive the Seagulls’ style.

Golden Boot Contenders
Erling Haaland, Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak, Viktor Gyökeres, Benjamin Šeško, and Hugo Ekitike headline the race for the top scorer award. Other possible challengers include Chris Wood, Dominic Solanke, Yoane Wissa, Jean-Philippe Mateta, and Ollie Watkins.
