Hundreds of heavily armed political thugs have been arrested by security forces during the ongoing by-election in Kano State.

The Kano State INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Ambassador Abdu Zango, told newsmen that the thugs were intercepted while attempting to move into Bagwai, where voting was underway.

Zango also revealed that some thugs around Shanono nearly disrupted the movement of election materials. He noted that the prompt intervention of security personnel helped restore order in the area.

Shanono is known for being a volatile area during elections, but the REC said the presence of security operatives has ensured that the by-election is proceeding smoothly.
