INEC RECORDS OVER 4.4 MILLION ONLINE VOTER PRE-REGISTRATIONS IN FOUR WEEKS

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 4,445,505 Nigerians have pre-registered online within four weeks of the nationwide voter registration exercise, which commenced on August 18, 2025.
In a press release signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, the Commission revealed that as of September 14, 2025, the online pre-registration figures comprised 2,141,294 males (48.17%) and 2,304,211 females (51.83%). A majority of registrants, 2,924,643 (65.79%), are aged between 18 and 34 years, while 1,112,344 (25.02%) are students.
On completed registrations, INEC disclosed that as of September 12, 2025, a total of 509,929 Nigerians had completed the process, combining both online and in-person registrations. Out of this, 229,758 (45.06%) were male and 280,171 (54.94%) female. By age and occupation, 378,132 (74.15%) were young people aged 18–34, while 196,529 (38.54%) were students.
The Commission stated that detailed breakdowns of registrations by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability have been uploaded to its website and official platforms.
On ward-level registration in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), INEC confirmed that online pre-registration ended on Monday, September 15, 2025. For the next two weeks, physical registration will be conducted at designated venues, after which the exercise will devolve to all 62 wards in the FCT from September 29 to October 8, 2025.
INEC assured Nigerians of its commitment to ensuring a smooth registration process ahead of the next general elections.
