The Anambra State Police Command has rescued a kidnap victim just seven hours after he was abducted by armed hoodlums at Umuru Village, Nnobi, Idemili South Local Government Area.

Spokesman for the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement on Tuesday, said the victim’s abductors had demanded a ransom of ₦10 million before joint tactical teams launched an intelligence-led operation that forced the criminals to abandon their captive.

“Under the pressure of the advancing rescue operation, the kidnappers hastily released the victim and fled into nearby bushes. The victim was rescued unharmed, debriefed, and has since been reunited with his family,” Ikenga said.

He added that the operatives are working on credible clues to track down the fleeing suspects.

The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, commended the officers for their swift intervention and reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to tackling crime and safeguarding lives.

This comes weeks after the Command foiled another kidnap attempt in different parts of the state, rescuing three victims and arresting a notorious member of a proscribed armed separatist group.

According to Ikenga, the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Gospel Ozioma Nneto, also known as “OZ,” was arrested by operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad. Recovered items included a pump-action gun and a dagger.

The police further noted that recent coordinated operations involving divisional police officers and vigilantes in Nimo and Nteje also led to the safe rescue of kidnap victims.

Ikenga stressed that the series of successes reflect the Command’s intensified efforts to flush out criminal elements across Anambra State.
