The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has temporarily halted its industrial action following the intervention of the Federal Government in the conflict between the union and the Dangote Group.

PENGASSAN President, Festus Osifo, disclosed this determination at a press conference, indicating that an urgent meeting of the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) decided to suspend the strike. He explained that this decision was made to facilitate the execution of agreements established during discussions and as a recognition of the Federal Government’s endeavors in resolving the impasse.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi, affirmed in a statement that the Dangote Group has consented to unionization and will reintegrate the affected refinery employees into other subsidiaries within the Group without any reduction in pay. He further assured that no employee will face repercussions for their involvement in the dispute.

The Federal Government’s mediation team encompassed the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu; Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha; DG DSS, Adeola Ajayi; and DG NIA, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.

PENGASSAN characterized the resolution as a crucial advancement towards reinstating industrial peace within the oil and gas sector.

Osifo, however, cautioned that PENGASSAN would recommence the industrial action without prior notice should the Dangote Refinery fail to uphold the agreement.
