Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has dismissed Dr. Maureen Ekhoragbon from her position as Chair of the State Senior Secondary Education Board, effective immediately.
Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has removed Dr Maureen Ekhoragbon as Chair of the State Senior Secondary Education Board, effective immediately.
The Secretary to the State Government, Ikhilor Musa, announced the sack in a statement on Monday and named Dr Rita Otibho Erewele as Ekhoragbon’s replacement.
The announcement did not provide justifications for the termination.
Erewele was characterized as “a proficient educator and manager” with over twenty years of experience in Nigeria’s educational field.
She possesses a Doctorate in Educational Administration and Planning, in addition to a master’s and undergraduate degree in education from the University of Benin.
Dr. Erewcle has held multiple leadership roles, including those of a lecturer, educational consultant, and senior education officer.
“Her contributions to policy formulation, instructor training, and curriculum improvement have garnered her accolades for distinction in academic leadership and educational innovation,“ the statement indicated.
Earlier this month, the Edo State Government declared the incorporation of 4,000 volunteer educators into the EdoStar Teaching Programme and the hiring of 500 additional teachers to enhance the state‘s educational framework.
Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, stated that the initiative demonstrated Governor Monday Okpebholo’s dedication to acknowledging hard work and tackling the shortage of educators in public elementary and secondary institutions.
“Come October 15, we are going to present letters of appointment to about 4,000 EdoStar volunteer teachers who have been teaching for the past three years,” he said.
