The family of a top 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) performer, Kaamilah Omolarami Kareem, has accused Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja, of unfair treatment and discrimination in the handling of their daughter’s admission process.

In a formal petition addressed to the Registrar of the institution, the candidate’s father, Engr. Babatunde Kareem expressed deep dissatisfaction over what he described as an “unjust and discriminatory” process that denied his daughter, Kaamilah Omolarami Kareem, the opportunity to secure her admission to study Mechatronics Engineering despite meeting and surpassing all academic requirements.

Kaamilah, who scored an exceptional 371 over 400 in the UTME and achieved six distinctions in her WASSCE, was reportedly marked “absent” for a post-UTME examination that, according to her father, was never scheduled or communicated to her. Despite submitting all required documents, which were screened and used by the university to issue her a provisional admission, she was not scored like other applicants.

Engr. Kareem further alleged that several emails and correspondences to the university seeking clarification on the post-UTME schedule went unanswered. This, they said, led to her being excluded from the final stage of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board screening for underage candidates an essential requirement for admission.

Kaamilah’s outstanding performance has already earned her scholarships from MTN Nigeria and the Association of Professional Women Engineers in Nigeria in recognition of her academic excellence, placing her among the top 10 candidates nationwide. The family insists she also holds the highest UTME score among Nile University applicants for the 2025 admission year.

“Our daughter is brilliant, diligent, and of excellent character. She should be celebrated by the university, not subjected to emotional distress and discrimination,” Engr. Kareem stated in the petition.

Engr. Kareem has called for a thorough investigation and swift resolution of the matter to ensure that the admission process of Kaamilah, who will turn 16 next April, is reinstated fairly. As of the time of filing this report, the university has not issued an official response to the allegations.

All efforts made by Hotjist to get the position of Nile University of Nigeria on the matter proved abortive.
