LAGOS POLICE ARREST SERIAL TAXI DRIVER LINKED TO MULTIPLE RAPE, ASSAULT, ROBBERY CASES

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a commercial taxi driver, Adedayo Ben Adegbola, who has been identified by several victims as the man behind a series of rape, assault, and armed robbery incidents involving female passengers across the state.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, on Saturday, November 1, 2025, the suspect’s picture had earlier surfaced in viral online posts shared by victims recounting their ordeals.
Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohunnare Jimoh, detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, launched an intensive investigation into the complaints. The joint police operation led to the arrest of the suspect on Friday, October 31, 2025, at about 9:40 a.m.
Police operatives also recovered the red Toyota Corolla vehicle, registration number JJJ 226 HT, allegedly used by the suspect to commit the crimes.
“The painstaking investigation by the Police Joint Investigation Teams resulted in the arrest of this vicious and very notorious suspect. The operational vehicle used in perpetrating the offences was recovered from his possession,” the statement said.
The police confirmed that Adegbola is currently in custody at the SCID, Panti, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other accomplices believed to have participated in the attacks. The recovered vehicle has been secured as evidence for prosecution.
The Command urged any additional victims of the suspect to come forward and assist investigators with relevant information, assuring that their identities will be fully protected.
“The Command urges any of the victims of this vicious and notorious suspect to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, to provide relevant information and evidence to help the investigation. Their identities will be properly protected,” the statement added.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohunnare Jimoh, reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring justice for survivors, protecting residents, and maintaining public safety.
He assured Lagosians that updates on the investigation would be made available as the case progresses.
