President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday directed the withdrawal of police officers assigned to provide security for Very Important Persons (VIPs) across the country.

According to the statement, the directive was issued during a security meeting held by President Tinubu on Sunday in Abuja with top security officials, including the police, Air Force, Army chiefs, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The presidential directive stated:

“VIPs who require police protection will now need to request well-armed personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

“Many parts of Nigeria, particularly remote areas, have limited police presence, making it difficult to adequately protect and defend the public.

“In light of current security challenges, President Tinubu aims to strengthen police deployment across all communities.

“Furthermore, the President has approved the recruitment of 30,000 additional police officers, and the federal government is working with states to upgrade police training facilities nationwide.”

Sunday’s meeting included the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke; Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun; and DSS Director-General, Tosin Adeola Ajayi
