The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over comments attributing hunger and insecurity in Nigeria to both the ruling APC and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement issued on Sunday by its spokesperson, Mogaji (Hon.) Seye Oladejo, the party dismissed Atiku’s remarks as unfounded and accused him of contributing significantly to the nation’s economic decline during his time in office.

The APC alleged that the former vice president played a central role in the controversial privatisation of national assets during the administration in which he served, claiming the process resulted in job losses, the collapse of industries and long-term economic repercussions.

According to the statement, “Atiku was not a bystander; he actively contributed to Nigeria’s economic challenges. The hardships he now criticises are rooted in policies implemented during his tenure.”

The party further asserted that the rise of insecurity, including the growth of Boko Haram, occurred under PDP governance, adding that challenges being addressed by the current administration stem from years of “corruption and policy mismanagement.”

The APC said President Bola Tinubu’s government is working to rebuild the economy and strengthen national security structures, describing ongoing reforms as efforts to “repair accumulated national damage.”

It also criticised Atiku’s long-standing political pursuits, accusing him of lacking impact in his home state, Adamawa, and claiming repeated presidential bids have yielded little progress.

The statement concluded by urging the former vice president to refrain from making “misleading political claims,” adding that the current administration remains focused on delivering reforms to address existing challenges.

Atiku Abubakar has not immediately responded to the Lagos APC’s remarks.
