The Katsina State Police Command says it has thwarted an attempted bandit attack along the Kandawa–Dankar road in Batsari Local Government Area, recovering weapons and a motorcycle in the process.

Police spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, noting that the incident occurred around 10:00 a.m. on November 29, 2025.

According to the statement, officers from the Batsari Division responded swiftly after receiving intelligence that armed suspects were attempting to block the road. A brief exchange of gunfire ensued, forcing the bandits to flee.

Recovered from the scene were two AK-47 rifles, 24 rounds of live ammunition and a Boxer motorcycle.

Sadiq said the operation was conducted under the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, and the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, as part of enhanced security measures across the state.

“The Commissioner of Police appreciates the operatives for their swift response and acts of valour and urges members of the public to continue supporting the command with timely and credible information,” he said.

He added that an investigation is ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects, assuring residents of the police’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.

Earlier, it was reported that 37 villagers abducted from Bakori Local Government Area were released following negotiations that resulted in a peace agreement.
