Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has exercised his constitutional power of mercy, granting full pardons to seven convicts serving various sentences in correctional facilities across the state.

A statement from the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, said the pardon was part of celebrations marking Governor Aiyedatiwa’s 61st birthday and builds on the clemency granted on January 1, 2026, during the New Year festivities.

Acting on recommendations from the State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, the governor approved clemency for 77 convicts.

The seven beneficiaries of the latest pardon were selected based on verified reports of genuine remorse, good conduct, rehabilitation efforts, and strong potential for successful reintegration into society.

The Chairman of the State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy and State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Dr. Kayode Ajulo, SAN, praised the governor’s decision, describing it as thoughtful and forward-looking.

Ajulo added that the move underscores the administration’s dedication to balancing accountability with mercy, reforming the justice sector, and fostering a society where redemption is possible.
