The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Ididiong James, for allegedly assaulting his mother and unlawfully possessing a firearm.

The arrest followed a distress call received by officers of the Panshekara Division on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at about 7:30 p.m., police spokesperson Abdullahi Kiyawa stated.

“Police officers responded to a distress call and found that James was beating his mother at their residence in Panshekara Quarters,” Kiyawa said. The suspect reportedly fled upon the police’s arrival. However, his mother handed over a Beretta pistol and eight rounds of ammunition allegedly found in her son’s bag.

The mother expressed concern over her son’s behaviour, noting changes since his return from a New Year celebration.
