Pandemonium ensued on Wednesday when officers from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command fired tear gas to disperse hundreds of protesters in Alausa, Ikeja. The demonstrators had gathered peacefully to protest demolitions in Makoko and Iyana-Oworoonsoki.

The incident occurred outside the Lagos State House of Assembly Complex, forcing workers, passers-by, and protesters to scatter for safety. Many protesters carried banners urging the government to intervene and protect their communities.

Eyewitnesses reported that several demonstrators were injured during the crackdown, though organizers have yet to provide an official casualty count.

RRS officers, positioned at key locations, blocked access to the Assembly around 1:30 p.m.

“Policemen at the scene of the ongoing protest began shooting tear gas at us to disperse protesters. Many of us were injured in the process,” one participant recounted.
