NEDC COMMISERATES WITH NUJ BAUCHI OVER ACCIDENT INVOLVING JOURNALISTS

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has expressed condolences to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Council, following a road accident involving journalists covering the commission’s project inauguration in the state.
The condolence message was contained in a statement issued on Saturday in Bauchi by the Head of Corporate Services of the commission, Abba Musa.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalled that the accident occurred on Friday along the Yashi–Yelwan Duguri Road in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State. The incident involved a vehicle conveying 14 journalists from various media organisations, alongside a driver on official duty with the NEDC delegation.
Musa said the NEDC Governing Board, management and staff deeply sympathised with the NUJ, particularly the Bauchi State Council, as well as the Bauchi State Government over the unfortunate incident.
“The NEDC Governing Board, management and staff wish to extend their heartfelt sympathy to the NUJ, especially the Bauchi State Council and the Bauchi State Government over this unfortunate incident,” he said.
He explained that the crash occurred on February 6 during the inauguration and handover of completed projects across Bauchi State, noting that the affected journalists were part of the official media team assigned to cover the exercise.
According to Musa, the commission’s governing board has approved the provision of full medical care for the injured journalists, as well as support for their families.
He added that efforts were ongoing to reach out to the affected media organisations and the relatives of the victims.
Among those injured were journalists from the News Agency of Nigeria, The Guardian, The Nation newspapers, as well as cameramen and correspondents of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
Others include reporters from Channels Television, Arise TV, Africa Independent Television (AIT), Bauchi Radio Corporation, Bauchi State Television and an online media platform.
