OSUN GOVT SAYS N16.5BN ILESA DUAL CARRIAGEWAY, TOWNSHIP ROADS BOOST ECONOMIC GROWTH

The Osun State Government has said the N16.5 billion dual carriageway and 10 newly constructed township roads in the Ilesa industrial corridor were designed to stimulate economic growth, expand business hubs and support start-ups in the ancient town.
The Director of Highways, Engineer Moruf Ojebode, stated this on Saturday while briefing journalists during an inspection of the projects, explaining that the road infrastructure aligns with Governor Ademola Adeleke’s agenda to reposition Ilesa as a major commercial and economic hub.
Ojebode said the upgraded road network, covering about 20 kilometres, has significantly eased movement, improved access to markets and industrial clusters, and created a more attractive environment for investors and small-scale businesses.
He noted that Ilesa had never had a dual carriageway before the current administration, describing the project as a landmark development for the town.
According to him, the dual carriageway stretches from the palace of the Owa-Obokun through the International Brewery axis to the Ilesa–Akure Expressway, covering about 6.2 kilometres and equipped with walkways and solar-powered street lights.
“If you look at the geography of Ilesa, you will discover that the industrial section is the corridor where we chose to construct this road. With the International Brewery and other facilities located there, the area has transformed into companies and business hubs since the completion of the dual carriageway,” Ojebode said.
He added that the project has brought renewed visibility and “majestic upliftment” to the town, while listing other completed roads in Ilesa to include Ademoroti, Ogbon Titun, Bonke, Ita Ofa, Atakunmosa Market, Imose, Adeti, Oke Ese, Ajimoko and INEC roads.
Community leaders praised the infrastructure projects, describing them as responsive to the needs of the people, and declared their support for Governor Adeleke’s second-term bid.
Chairman of Ilesa West Local Government, Hon. Oladiti Aluko, urged residents and road users to protect the new roads from damage, noting that the governor had fulfilled part of his campaign promises to the area.
A community leader, Prince Adeyemi Adeniran, said Ilesa residents were firmly behind Governor Adeleke, citing his achievements in infrastructure development as a reason for continued support.
Similarly, the Vice Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Abuja Park, Mr. Temitope Matthew, said the road projects had improved the operations of transport workers, pledging that union members would support the governor in the 2026 governorship election.
