PROF. YAQUB GEIDAM ASSUMES OFFICE AS NEW VICE-CHANCELLOR OF FEDERAL UNIVERSITY GASHUA

Professor Yaqub Geidam has officially assumed office as the fourth substantive Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Gashua, Yobe State, pledging to consolidate existing achievements and steer the institution toward academic excellence, research growth, and infrastructural development.
The appointment, approved by the university’s Governing Council at a statutory meeting chaired by Pro-Chancellor Ibrahim Usman, followed a rigorous, merit-based selection process in line with the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act and other relevant regulations, according to a statement from the Head of Information and Protocol Unit, Mallam Adamu Saleh.
During the handover ceremony on Wednesday at the university’s 1,000-capacity lecture hall, Geidam expressed gratitude to the council and the university community for their trust, saying, “Together, we will build on the solid foundation already laid and move this university to greater heights.”
He outlined key priority areas, including strengthening academic standards, promoting research and innovation, enhancing staff welfare, improving infrastructure, and ensuring overall institutional growth.
A professor of Veterinary Medicine with over two decades of experience, Geidam previously served as Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Maiduguri and held several significant administrative positions.
The outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Maimuna Waziri, thanked the university community for their cooperation during her tenure and urged staff and students to extend the same support to Geidam. She formally handed over the instruments of office, marking the conclusion of her leadership.
The ceremony was attended by principal officers, management members, deans, directors, heads of departments, staff, students, and other dignitaries.
