Award-winning Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has described women as the backbone of Nigeria’s film industry, noting that they dominate key roles and often juggle multiple businesses alongside their acting careers.

In an interview with the media shared on YouTube on Friday, Omotola highlighted the vital role women have played in sustaining Nollywood since its early days.

“Women are the ones who hold this industry from the start. Women do well for this industry. Women are mostly the producers. Women are the ones who truly hold Nollywood together,” she said.

She also praised the entrepreneurial spirit of female actors, pointing out that many manage several businesses in addition to their acting commitments.

“I don’t know any female actor, even newcomers, who doesn’t have at least three or four businesses. Many run different ventures—they are influencers, act, model, own shops. You’ll hear one has a boutique, another has a business; virtually every woman I know has something. Acting is intense, and balancing it all is crucial,” she explained.

Omotola further compared male and female actors, noting that while men receive admiration, women often face a more intense level of attention.

“Male actors try too, but it’s not as intense as it is for women. Women get more admirers. Men also get support, but women experience more,” she said.

She added that even as a married woman, she still receives gifts and gestures of support from both men and women.

“Even as a married woman, I get things from people—cars, gifts, messages. Both women and men send me things,” she revealed.

Despite this attention, Omotola emphasised that her husband remains completely secure in their marriage.

“My husband is the most secure person you’ll ever meet. How would you marry Omosexy and not be secure? He’s steady, no shaking,” she said.

Married for over two decades, Omotola is widely regarded as one of Nollywood’s most respected actresses and often speaks on the importance of trust, balance, and stability in both career and marriage.
