PETER OBI CONFIRMS INTENTION TO CONTEST 2027 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

The Peter Obi, who ran as the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, has assured his supporters that he is prepared to contest again in the 2027 elections.
He made the remarks in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, during the OBIDIENT Conference and the official declaration for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), held under the theme, “Activating the PO Effect in ADC.”
Obi called on Nigerians to unite with him in rescuing the country, warning that future generations will bear the consequences of decades of poor governance if corrective action is not taken.
He claimed to have reliable information that the Federal Government does not want him to run but insisted that he would contest regardless, even if the elections were held figuratively in their “bedroom.”
The former Anambra State governor added that the current administration has taken on more loans than any previous government, noting that most of these debts are scheduled for repayment between 2045 and 2050—long after the officials responsible for plunging the country into debt have left office.

Explaining his departure from the Labour Party on Saturday, Obi said, “Democracy must work. I left the Labour Party after learning that as long as I remained, INEC would not recognise its leadership, and that the Federal Government does not want me on the ballot. But I want to assure you that I will contest the coming election, even if it is held in their bedroom, and if they refuse to transmit the results, we will transmit them ourselves.”
He stressed that Nigeria must “get it right in 2027,” insisting that election results must be transmitted online in real time.
Obi, who promised that his administration would make substantial investments in education and health if elected, noted that many of the world’s leading countries achieved greatness through deliberate investment in education. He added that he would do everything possible to lift citizens out of poverty and reduce criminality.

The presidential aspirant further said he plans to tour the entire country, including all higher institutions, to assess challenges on the ground firsthand. He emphasised that his focus is on fixing Nigeria now that he has the capacity to tackle difficult tasks, adding that those joining him in his mission must prioritise the future and well-being of the people.
He vowed to tackle corruption in Nigeria, asserting that the problem could be reduced by 60 percent if a leader and their family have no involvement in corrupt practices.
“When I became governor of Anambra State, I advised my wife to forget about the office of first lady because we were not elected together. I approved over 100 Certificates of Occupancy for government lands, but not one for myself or my family. If anyone finds otherwise, they should petition the appropriate authority,” he said.
Speaking to participants, the coordinator of the Obidient movement worldwide, Tanko Yunusa, called on Nigerians to mobilise from every corner of the country ahead of the 2027 general elections. He encouraged supporters to channel their collective energy into the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the vehicle for transformation and victory in 2027.
The Akwa Ibom State coordinator of the movement, Ben Smith, urged members to remain united in pursuit of their goal, warning that divisions or factionalism could derail the vision of a new Nigeria.
