Fintech firm eTranzact Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigerian taxpayers with same-day onboarding and seamless electronic invoice uploads as the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) intensifies the phased implementation of its e-invoicing regime.

The pledge was made at the NRS E-invoicing Compliance Workshop and Stakeholder Engagement held on Tuesday, where stakeholders discussed practical steps to drive adoption of the new digital tax system.

An e-invoice is the electronic version of a commercial transaction between a supplier and a buyer, capturing key details such as identities of the parties, item descriptions, quantities, pricing, applicable taxes, and total value. The NRS plans to deploy the system in phases to strengthen tax administration and support Nigeria’s growing digital economy.

Speaking at the event, Abubakar Achimugu, Executive Director of Government Relations and Special Projects at eTranzact, urged taxpayers to leverage the company’s digital solutions to ease compliance.

“We at eTranzact have collaborated with the NRS for many years. We are the main platform handling revenue collection in the country, particularly VAT funds, in a seamless, secure, and safe manner,” Achimugu said.

He added, “With e-invoicing, we are moving away from manual processes to digitalisation. Our platform is very user-friendly, regardless of literacy level, and it will protect the average Nigerian from multiple taxation by providing notifications on what has been paid and proper documentation of each transaction.”

Achimugu also highlighted eTranzact’s same-day onboarding and 24/7 support for seamless e-invoice uploads to the NRS portal.

Addressing infrastructure and readiness concerns, Mohammed Bawa, Project Manager for E-invoicing at the NRS, said the phased rollout was designed to minimise disruption and ease adoption.

“The implementation is in three phases: large taxpayers, medium, and emerging. We have a three-year plan, and last year we engaged extensively with large taxpayers to ease the transition,” Bawa explained.

He further noted that accredited service providers like eTranzact are crucial for facilitating smooth adoption, having demonstrated their solutions to the NRS and received official endorsement. Public sensitisation efforts will continue to deepen understanding of the initiative and its benefits.

According to the NRS, the electronic invoicing and fiscal monitoring system, also called the Merchant Buyer Solution, went live for large taxpayers on 1 August 2025 following pilot deployments and stakeholder consultations. Full implementation for medium taxpayers—businesses with annual turnover between N1 billion and N5 billion—is scheduled for July 2026, with enforcement in early 2027. The rollout for emerging taxpayers, with turnover below N1 billion, will begin in 2027, with enforcement in 2028.

The NRS advised businesses to identify their category and participate actively in onboarding, emphasizing that enforcement will follow only after engagement, pilot, and post-go-live review phases are completed.
