TWO KILLED, FIVE INJURED AS VIOLENCE DISRUPTS APC WARD CONGRESS IN ONDO

Two people died and five others were hurt on Wednesday because of violent incidents during the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward congress in Idanre, Ondo state.
The event took place in Odode-Idanre, which is the main office of the Idanre Local Government Area. The ruling party was holding congresses in all 203 of its wards in the state.
The fighting is thought to be connected to the disturbance that happened on Tuesday at the party‘s secretariat in Akure. During that time, some people broke into a meeting for stakeholders and attacked party officials.
Raphael Adetimehin, the younger brother of the state‘s caretaker chairman, was one of the people who was attacked.
He got injured by a machete because attackers thought he was his brother, since they looked alike. People who saw the event said his car was burned, and he was taken to General Hospital in Idanre, where he is still in a coma.
Ade Adetimehin claimed the assault was politically motivated and sponsored by hoodlums linked to Tajudeen Adefisoye, a former house of representatives member, whom he described as an ally of Lucky Aiyedatiwa, governor of Ondo.
“They targeted my brother because they thought he was me. They shot him several times but bullets could not penetrate, so he was cut several times with a cutlass,” Adetimehin said.
A family member said Raphael might not have lived through the attack. They also mentioned that two other men, one of whom was driving a Venza, were killed during the incident.
The identities of the other victims are still being checked as of now. The police in Ondo state confirmed the violence, stating that five people were attacked and a car was set on fire.
“Three victims sustained varying degrees of injury and are currently receiving medical attention while two others were confirmed dead at the hospital,” the police public relations officer said.
Adebowale Lawal, the state commissioner of police, alongside Oluyemi Ibiloye, the NSCDC commandant, led a combined security team to the scene, restoring order.
The police said investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible.
