A 28-year-old commercial motorcycle rider, Ayoade Ohiremen, has reportedly been killed while negotiating the purchase of a new motorcycle in Edo State.

The incident occurred in the Ahor community along the Oluku Road bypass in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area, Benin City.

According to sources, Ohiremen, who operated as a commercial motorcyclist in the Ahor-Uzala area along the Oluku-Benin-Auchi Road bypass, had joined other riders to acquire a new motorcycle on a balance-and-carry plan.

A source alleged that a dispute erupted upon arrival at the venue, with fellow riders accusing him of acting without authorization. The disagreement reportedly escalated into violence, during which Ohiremen was allegedly beaten severely and died on the spot.

The source further alleged that the suspected assailants dragged Ohiremen’s lifeless body into a nearby farm, where it was abandoned as they fled to an unknown location.

Confirming the incident, the Deputy Corps Commander, Operations of the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC), Richard Balogun, said one suspect, identified as Bello Bawa, has been arrested in connection with the case.

Balogun explained that ESSC operatives in the area acted swiftly after receiving reports of the incident. Personnel meticulously pursued the perpetrators, leading to the arrest of one suspect.

He added that the suspect was handed over to the Ahor Police Division, which subsequently transferred him to the homicide department of the Edo State Police Command for further investigation.
