President Bola Tinubu on Monday evening hosted state governors to a Ramadan Iftar dinner at the State House, Abuja, continuing what has become an annual tradition since assuming office.

The gathering, now in its third consecutive year, brought together governors, deputy governors and senior government officials to break the day’s fast during the holy month of Ramadan.

Governors who arrived at the Presidential Villa before 7:00 p.m. included Hope Uzodinma, Dapo Abiodun, Monday Okpebholo, Usman Ododo, Babagana Zulum, Inuwa Yahaya, Ahmed Aliyu, Sheriff Oborevwori, Mohammed Bago, Umar Namadi, Abdullahi Sule, Abba Kabir Yusuf, and Agbu Kefas.

The Deputy Governor of Bauchi State was also in attendance.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, and several cabinet members were present at the dinner.

The Iftar forms part of President Tinubu’s Ramadan tradition of hosting political leaders and top government functionaries during the fasting period. In previous years, he has used the occasion to preach unity and emphasise the need for selfless leadership.

At the 2025 Iftar, the President urged governors and ministers to prioritise citizens’ welfare, saying, “Do more for your people,” while stressing that Nigeria should be seen as “one big family living under the same roof,” irrespective of religious or ethnic differences.

Similarly, at the 2024 gathering, Tinubu appealed to state governors to set aside political differences and focus squarely on governance, declaring that “the time for politics is over. It is now time for governance.”

The President is expected to host additional Iftar dinners with senior government officials, traditional rulers and members of the diplomatic corps during the holy month.

In previous years, former President Muhammadu Buhari also hosted Ramadan fast-breaking events with leaders of the National Assembly, the Judiciary and other stakeholders.
