Vice President Kashim Shettima on Tuesday urged Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, to set aside their differences and reconcile.

Shettima called on the two leaders to resolve their disagreements and work together for the development and stability of Benue State.

Speaking to stakeholders in Abuja, he said: “I want to make a special appeal to His Excellency, George Akume, and His Excellency, Hyacinth Alia, to mend fences and cooperate.

“Apart from Abdullahi Ganduje, Akume is the longest-serving public servant in our current administration.

“He is over 70 and has an extensive career: he began at Benue House as Director of Protocol, served as Permanent Secretary, governor for eight years, senator for 12 years, minister for four years, and now serves as SGF.

“You have seen it all. As an elder statesman, reach out to our junior brother. Benue deserves peace and progress.
