The Ondo State Police Command has arrested six men allegedly posing as pastors to defraud residents of Idanre community in Idanre Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Jimoh Kazeem, said the suspects were apprehended following an intelligence-led operation by the Command’s Tactical Teams in collaboration with Community Safety Officers.
The suspects were identified as Fadahunsi, Kolade, Tijani, Iyanuoluwa, Arijesulola, and Ademola.
According to the police, the operation was carried out on February 16, 2026, after credible information revealed the activities of a suspected fraud syndicate operating in Idanre and its environs.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects allegedly posed as pastors and religious leaders, staging fake miracles and spiritual interventions to gain the confidence of unsuspecting victims. They were said to have exploited the faith and vulnerabilities of individuals by promising divine solutions to financial, health, and personal challenges, only to defraud them through false pretences and related scams.
Kazeem added that the group reportedly operated in a coordinated manner, assigning specific roles among themselves to create a convincing appearance of legitimacy.
He noted that further investigations are ongoing to determine the total number of victims, assess the financial magnitude of the fraud, and identify other possible accomplices who may still be at large.
“All the suspects are currently in police custody and will soon be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation,” the police spokesman stated.
The Command advised members of the public to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to individuals who exploit religion, spirituality, or promises of miracles for fraudulent purposes.
