The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a 15-year-old boy, Gobri Yusuf, for allegedly killing his aunt, who had adopted and raised him, in Ilorin, the state capital.
State Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, revealed this on Friday during a press briefing at the Force headquarters in Ilorin.
Ojo explained that the suspect was apprehended following a distress call about the discovery of a woman, identified as Akanbi A., found in a pool of blood at her residence.
“On January 14, 2026, at about 2030hrs, a distress report was received regarding the discovery of one Akanbi A (F) in a pool of blood at her residence,” he said.
“Police operatives responded promptly and launched a discreet investigation,” the commissioner said.
He added that preliminary findings indicate the suspect, who lived with the deceased, allegedly hid behind a door and attacked her while she was bathing using household items.
“Investigations revealed that the suspect, who was residing with the deceased, allegedly concealed himself behind a door and assaulted her while she was bathing with household items,” he said.
The police commissioner said several items believed to have been used in the attack were recovered as evidence.
“Items recovered from the suspect include a frying pan, a weighing scale, a kitchen turning stick, and kitchen knives,” Ojo stated.
He further revealed that the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation, explaining that the act was fueled by resentment toward the deceased.
“During interrogation, the suspect admitted that his actions were motivated by resentment and disclosed that previous attempts to poison the deceased had failed,” the commissioner said.
Ojo added that after allegedly committing the crime, the suspect changed his clothes and left the residence under the pretext of running an errand.
“After committing the offence, he changed his clothes and left the residence, claiming he had an errand to run. He later contacted the deceased’s husband, who subsequently found her lifeless body,” he explained.
