The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has revealed plans to partner with Finland to boost infrastructure development, agriculture, and urban management in Abuja.
FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, made this known on Tuesday while receiving Finland’s Ambassador to Nigeria and Permanent Representative to ECOWAS, Sanna Selin.
The meeting centred on deepening bilateral ties and exploring technical collaborations in line with the administration’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.
Speaking on Abuja’s rapid growth, Wike said the FCT is open to learning from global partners to enhance development. He noted the administration’s readiness to work with Finland in areas such as infrastructure, smart city technology, and green energy.
The minister also assured members of the diplomatic community of improved security across the territory, stressing the government’s commitment to ensuring a safe environment for international partners.
A key part of the discussions focused on upgrading waste management systems. Wike invited Finnish companies with expertise in environmental technology to collaborate with the FCT in addressing waste challenges.
In response, Selin welcomed the initiative, pointing out that cooperation between Finland and Nigeria has been growing in recent months. She highlighted Finland’s strengths in digitalisation, water and waste management, and circular economy solutions, expressing confidence that these capabilities could be applied in Abuja through concrete projects.
Meanwhile, Wike has also called for stronger collaboration with Japan to fast-track development in the FCT, particularly in urban planning, education, and agriculture.
