The Yobe State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with separate violent incidents that claimed two lives in Damaturu.

The command said the incidents, linked to youth restiveness, substance abuse, and avoidable disputes, have heightened concerns among residents.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed that one of the cases involved a fatal attack in the Bindigari Primary School area.

According to him, 33-year-old Adamu Suleiman Saidu was allegedly attacked by Musa Mohammed, also known as “Aljan,” following a disagreement believed to be related to substance abuse.

“The suspect allegedly attacked the victim with an axe, inflicting severe head injuries,” Abdulkarim said, adding that the suspect was arrested at the scene and the weapon recovered.

The victim was rushed to the General Hospital, Damaturu, but later died while receiving treatment. Police said investigations are ongoing and the suspect will be prosecuted.

In a separate incident, officers attached to ‘C’ Division responded to a violent altercation in the Abari community involving Al’amin Abdullahi Musa and Ibrahim Abdullahi.

The dispute, reportedly triggered by a borrowed T-shirt, escalated into a fight during which one of the individuals fell unconscious. The victim was taken to the Specialist Hospital, Damaturu, where he was confirmed dead.

Police confirmed that Abdullahi Musa has been arrested, while investigations continue.

The command urged parents, community leaders, and civil society organisations to support efforts to curb drug and substance abuse among youths, noting its growing link to violent crimes.

It also assured the public that all cases would be thoroughly investigated and suspects brought to justice.
