ahead of the governorship primary election of the all progressives congress in nasarawa state, nigeria’s vice president, Kashim Shettima, on wednesday publicly endorsed Ahmed Aliyu Wadada as nasarawa’s next governor in 2027, aligning himself with governor Abdullahi Sule.
speaking at the opening of the Nasarawa Investment Summit 2026 in Lafia, themed “bold transitions, building a legacy for a sustainable future,” shettima described wadada as the man expected to succeed sule and continue the state’s economic reforms beyond the 2027 elections.
the vice president assured investors, traditional rulers, political leaders, governorship aspirants, and members of the inter-party advisory council that nasarawa’s economic growth and investment policies would remain stable after the political transition.
expressing confidence in wadada’s leadership, shettima said the senator, who has a banking background, would continue from where sule stops, adding that “by the grace of god, seated in our midst here is the next governor of nasarawa.”
the remarks came as stakeholders unveiled the lafia declaration, a commitment by political parties, government institutions, development partners, and investors to sustain nasarawa’s reform agenda and protect existing contracts after the 2027 transition.
shettima concluded by saying that true leadership is measured by the ability to ensure that progress continues beyond one’s tenure, stressing that continuity built on competence and character remains nigeria’s next competitive advantage.
