troops of the 12 brigade of the nigerian army have successfully rescued nine kidnapped victims and foiled a terrorist logistics operation during separate but coordinated missions carried out on 6 may 2026 in kogi state.

according to lieutenant hassan abdullahi, the brigade spokesperson, who confirmed the development on thursday, the rescued victims included five boys, two girls, and two adult females believed to be the wives of the proprietor of a recently attacked islamic orphanage.

he said the rescue was achieved under operation tiger paw ii after sustained search and rescue efforts.

“acting on credible intelligence and maintaining operational pressure, troops of the brigade’s blocking force intercepted and recovered the victims within the agbaja forest area in lokoja local government area,” he stated.

the victims were immediately taken to the 12 brigade medical centre, where they received first aid and medical attention, and were confirmed to be in stable condition.

in a related operation the same day, troops acting on intelligence intercepted a suspected ammunition courier along the obajana–lokoja road in lokoja local government area.

the suspect, identified as yahaya umar, was found with 500 rounds of 7.62mm nato belted ammunition concealed inside a bag of maize in an attempt to avoid detection.

preliminary investigations suggest he was a logistics courier for terrorists operating across parts of the north central region, with the ammunition allegedly handed to him at obajana forest and destined for delivery at dikko junction in suleja, niger state, to an unidentified recipient.

he is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation to support efforts aimed at dismantling the criminal network and arresting other members of the syndicate.

the army said the coordinated operations highlight its continued commitment to protecting lives and property while intensifying actions against terrorists and their collaborators, urging the public to provide timely and credible intelligence to security agencies.
