UNIBEN FEMALE HOSTEL GUTTED BY FIRE

On Tuesday, a fire destroyed the female students’ hotel at the University of Benin’s Ekehuan campus.

According to sources, the fire destroyed certain university documents and property.

According to a source, the incident, which began at lunchtime, did not result in any deaths.

While one account stated that the cause of the fire was unknown, another claimed that it was started by a surge from an electric cooker known as a ‘hot plate’ that one of the female students was using.

The attention of the state’s fire department was alerted to the situation on time, according to the source, and its employees were on the ground extinguishing the fire.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the University, Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, declined comment.

The state fire service is also yet to comment on the incident.
