Ghana have sacked Chris Hughton as their head coach following the national team’s exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

His dismissal was confirmed by the Ghana Football Association Tuesday night.

The Black Stars were eliminated from the group stages, after taking only two points from their three Group B matches.

Their slim hopes of qualifying as one of the four best third-placed teams ended on Tuesday, thanks to Mauritania’s shock 1-0 win over Algeria in Bouaké.

Hughton, 65, took charge of his first match last March, but won just four of his 13 games at the helm.

“Chris Hughton has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the senior national team with immediate effect,” the Ghana Football Association said Tuesday after the team’s elimination was confirmed.

“The executive council has also taken a decision to dissolve the technical team of the Black Stars.

“The Ghana Football Association will in the coming days provide a roadmap on the future direction of the Black Stars.”
