FUEL QUEUES WILL END SOON, REPS REASSURE NIGERIANS
The House of Representatives has reassured the public that the long queues at filling stations across the country will soon disappear.
On Wednesday, Rep. Ikenga Ugochinyere, Chairman of the Petroleum Downstream Committee, made this statement during a joint news conference in Abuja.
“We express our concerns over the temporary presence of fuel queues in petrol stations across the country. However, based on our investigation, we are convinced that this is a temporary situation, and in a couple of days, we shall overcome it,” he said.
Flanked by Rep. Henry Okojie, Chairman of the Petroleum Midstream Committee, Ugochinyere stated that investigations had revealed the scarcity to be artificial.
“We have discovered that petrol products are available. We have it on good authority that we have at least 1.5 billion liters of petrol in our storage facilities,” he said.
He noted that 1.5 billion liters could last for 30 days.
“We have received assurances from regulators in the distribution value chain that these bottlenecks have been cleared. More progress will be made over the public holiday.
“From our findings, the issues that led to the appearance of fuel queues in petrol stations have been resolved,” he added.
They stated that it would take a few more days for things to return to normal and called on Nigerians not to panic.
“We have received assurances from regulators and unions that these challenges will be resolved in a few days,” he said.
Ugochinyere added: “It will require more time, like two to three days, for products to be distributed to all stations nationwide.
