SGF, NSA, MINISTERS IN EMERGENCY MEETING OVER PLANNED PROTEST
On Wednesday, George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), met with ministers to discuss the planned statewide demonstration by Nigerian youths over economic hardship.
The entire group of more than forty ministers in the president’s cabinet attended the closed-door meeting.
Nyesom Wike (FCT), Abubakar Bagudu (Budget and Planning), Zephaniah Jisalo (Special Duties), Tahir Mamman (Education), and Yusuf Tuggar (Foreign Affairs) are a few of the ministers sighted.
Others include Bello Matawalle (defense), David Umahi (works), Wale Edun (finance), Mohammed Idris (information), and Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser (NSA).
In the meantime, President Bola Tinubu urged Nigerians on Tuesday to postpone the “End Bad Government” demonstration that was scheduled for next month.
All of the Federation’s states, as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, are expected to participate in the protest against economic hardship that is gaining popularity on social media in August. The protest’s organizers have chosen to remain anonymous.
Food and basic commodity prices have skyrocketed in recent months as Nigerians struggle with one of the biggest inflation and economic crises the nation has ever experienced, which was brought on by the government’s dual policy of eliminating gasoline subsidies and unifying exchange windows.
