JUST IN: RESIDENT DOCTORS DECLARE 7-DAY WARNING STRIKE
The Nigeria Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has launched a seven-day warning strike at all of its centres across the country.
The resident physicians’ strike is calling for the release of its kidnapped member, Dr Ganiyat Popoola, who has been held captive for more than 8 months.
In a statement, NARD President Dr. Dele Abdullahi stated that the strike will begin at 12 a.m. on Monday, August 26, 2024.
Abdullahi stated that the decision was made during a virtual Emergency National Executive Council meeting on Sunday, August 25, 2024.
He stated that the warning strike will last one week and will be total, with no emergency care.
Dr. Ganiyat Popoola, a registrar in the Department of Ophthalmology at the National Eye Centre in Kaduna, was kidnapped about 8 months ago, along with her husband and nephew.
Popoola and her nephew are still being held captive, despite the fact that her husband was released in March.
Weeks ago, NARD members demonstrated in all tertiary hospitals across the country, demanding Dr. Popoola’s immediate release.
