TERRORISM ALLEGATIONS: AJAERO RETURNS TO LABOUR HOUSE AFTER POLICE INVITATION
Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), has returned to Labour House following the police’s request.
Ajaero arrived at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday morning, joined by human rights lawyer Femi Falana, SAN, and others.
His invitation by the police to an alleged inquiry into terrorism financing sparked outrage, with the NLC and other labour unions accusing the Federal Government of seeking to intimidate labour leaders.
Before accepting the invitation, labourers met at the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) headquarters on Thursday to show solidarity with their president.
According to police, Ajaero will answer questions about his alleged involvement in terrorism financing, cybercrime, subversion, criminal conspiracy, and treasonable offence.
The invitation followed a night raid by police on the NLC national secretariat in Abuja.
Previously, the NLC National Executive Council convened an emergency meeting in the early hours of August 20, condemning the move.
The Council described the allegations against Ajaero as politically motivated and fabricated in order to silence organised labour.
They claimed that Ajaero’s police invitation was too short and requested that his appearance be postponed.
