LAGOS GOVT SERVES CONTRAVENTION NOTICE ON ILLEGAL OCCUPANTS OF MAYEGUN WATERFRONT SCHEME

Read Time:1 Minute, 23 Second

The Lagos State Government issued violation notices to over 280 illegal property owners and occupiers in the Mayegun Waterfront Scheme, located in the Eti Osa Local Government area of the State, on Saturday in an effort to prevent the development of slums, the distortion of the Lagos State Master Plan, and the erosion of the state coastal area.

The occupants of the premises in question are expected by the contravention notices to produce necessary documents and approvals within seven days of receiving the notice; if they fail to do so, they will be served with a demolition notice.

The Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development’s survey team, tasked with overseeing the upkeep of the Lagos State Waterfront Schemes, conducted a thorough technical evaluation of the Mayegun Waterfront Scheme and discovered that the over 280 properties, comprising finished, under-construction, and undeveloped lands, lacked official documentation approving their construction.

In order to avoid penalties, property owners were advised by Hon. Ekundayo Alebiosu, the Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, to either come forward and regularize their documents, if they have any, or to voluntarily dismantle their structures before the expiration of the infraction notices filed on them.

The State Government would no longer tolerate or accept anybody intruding on government properties, land, or setbacks, he said, therefore all unlawful actions along the Waterfront projects and corridor must cease immediately.

Alebiosu revealed that the State Government is presently purging the Okun Ajah waterfront scheme, where comparable encroachment is present. The State Government will not give up on safeguarding the State Waterfront Schemes and infrastructure, as well as guaranteeing the safety of life and property along the State’s coastal area.
