MAN CRUSHED TO DEATH BY TRAIN IN LAGOS
A 50-year-old man identified simply as Emmanuel was crushed to death by a train in the Oshodi area of Lagos on Saturday.
It was gathered that the incident happened near Arena Shopping Complex in Oshodi.
The deceased’s sister (name unknown) informed the police that she received a phone call around 9am, alerting her that her older brother had been fatally struck by the moving train.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement, confirmed that the Mosafejo Division of the command was notified of the incident around 1:33 pm. The police immediately dispatched a team of detectives to the scene.
“The scene was visited and photographed by a team of detectives,” Hundeyin said, adding, “The corpse was evacuated to a public morgue for autopsy.”
Confirming further, Hundeyin said that the case had been transferred to the Railway Police Command in Ebute Metta for further investigation.
The exact circumstances surrounding the accident are still unclear, however, a similar incident was recorded in the Mushin area of the state in August when a male adult was crushed to death by a moving train.
The incident was said to have occurred around 6 pm on the fateful day while the deceased was walking along the Cappa railway tracks.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency in a statement signed by its spokesman, Nosa Okunbor, said the victim was found dead at the scene with severe injuries sustained from the collision.
Okubor added that the man was confirmed to have died instantly due to the impact of the crash.
