EDO RECOVERS 30 VEHICLES FROM FORMER GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS
On Thursday, Kelly Okungbowa, the chairman of the Edo State Vehicle Recovery Committee, declared that 30 government-owned vehicles had been recovered from members of the most recent administration.
Fred Itua, Governor Monday Okpebholo’s chief press secretary, revealed the development in a statement.
Four automobiles were recovered from the home of a former high-ranking official, while another was recovered from a different person. Okungbowa praised whistleblowers for supplying crucial information that made the recoveries possible.
“We have recovered two Land Cruiser Jeeps and two Toyota Hilux vehicles from a former high-ranking official of the immediate past government. One of the vehicles contained campaign posters and umbrellas.
“Another Hilux vehicle was also recovered, bringing the total number of vehicles retrieved since our operation began to 30,” Okungbowa said.
Before the committee’s two-week deadline to finish its duty, he promised Edo locals that further recoveries would be made.
“We appeal to the public for more information to aid our operations. Whistleblowers have been instrumental to our success, and we are committed to rewarding anyone who provides helpful tips,” he added.
The committee is ready to go wherever in the country to retrieve state-owned vehicles, Okungbowa said.
Recall that last Friday, the committee had already retrieved three vehicles: two Toyota Hiace buses and a Hilux van.
Bags of palliative rice, allegedly slated for distribution to Edo people, were discovered inside one of the busses.
The committee’s resolve to make sure that all government assets are tracked down and given back to the state was reaffirmed by the chairman.
