INTERPOL: 37 ALLEGED TERRORISTS DETAINED IN EAST AFRICA
Interpol announced on Monday that at least 37 suspected terrorists, including members of ISIS, have been arrested across East Africa in the past two months.
The global police organization, based in France, stated that these arrests occurred during November and December 2024, as part of joint operations with Afripol, the pan-African police body.
The arrests come amid growing concerns about a possible resurgence of the ISIS militant group following the ousting of Bashar al-Assad in Syria.
On New Year’s Day, a US Army veteran, who flew an ISIS flag from his truck, killed at least 15 people in New Orleans after driving into crowds and swerving around makeshift barriers.
According to Interpol, the operations led to the arrest of 17 individuals, including two suspected ISIS members in Kenya and a suspected ISIS member from Mozambique in Tanzania.

Additional arrests took place in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Somalia.
“East Africa’s complex landscape, marked by political instability, porous borders, and socioeconomic challenges, continues to provide an environment conducive to terrorist activity.
“These positive results demonstrate the power of international collaboration in the fight against terrorism,” Interpol said.
