The Niger State Police Command has successfully rescued a kidnapped victim and recovered a significant number of stolen livestock.

In a statement, the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, revealed that the victim, Cornelius Damulak, a 36-year-old student at Veritas University, Abuja, was freed on February 14, 2025, along the Pogo-Paiko highway.

Abiodun stated that Damulak had been abducted from his home in Bwari, Abuja, on February 6, 2025. He further explained that the victim had been held for eight days before managing to escape from his captors.

According to him: “Fortunately, he was able to escape from the abductors on 13 February 2025 and found himself along the Pogo-Paiko highway, Minna, after trekking a long distance. He was immediately rescued and taken to the Division.”

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention, while efforts to locate his relatives are being intensified.

In another operation, officers from the Maitumbi Division intercepted a vehicle carrying stolen cattle on the Gwada-Maitumbi Road.

The suspects, identified as Mohammed Ibrahim, Ibrahim Yakubu, and three others, were apprehended and placed in custody.

Police reports indicate that the stolen livestock, consisting of eleven cows and thirty-four sheep, had been taken from a residence in Kuchi, Munya.

“During interrogation, Mohammed Ibrahim confessed that he stole the animals from one Saleh’s compound in the same village and was transporting them to Minna for sale,” the police spokesman further disclosed.

The recovered animals are being kept as evidence, while the suspects remain under investigation.

Authorities are also working to identify and locate the rightful owner of the livestock.
