Itunu Abiodun, 29, has been placed under detention at the Olokuta Correctional Centre on suspicion of kidnapping and defiling a 14-year-old girl.

The defendant is awaiting trial in the Akure Family Magistrates’ Court on two counts that border on kidnapping and defilement.

Martins Olowofeso, the police prosecutor, told the court that the incident happened on March 25, 2025, at Kolawole Street in the state capital of Akure’s Oke-Aro Tuntun neighbourhood.

He claimed that the defendant kidnapped Okoye Chinaza, a teenager, and defiled her without getting her permission.

According to the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006, the defendant committed an offence against and was punished under Sections 221(2) and 225 by unlawfully kidnapping and defiling Chinaza.

When the allegations were given to the defendant in court, he entered a not guilty plea.
However, the prosecutor asked the court to confine the defendant to the Olokuta Correctional Centre while the Director of Public Prosecutions’ (DPP) office provides legal guidance.

Magistrate Temitope Alphonso granted the prosecutor’s plea in her ruling and directed that the defendant be placed under detention at Olokuta Correctional Centre until the Director of Public Prosecution’s (DPP) advice was finalised.

The matter was adjourned till June 17, 2025, for further mention.
