
ABIA GOVERNMENT RESCUES MINOR AFTER PARENTAL ASSAULT, FATHER IN CUSTODY

The police in Aba, Abia State, have arrested a man, Ugochukwu Ezechinyere, for allegedly collaborating with his wife to physically abuse his 7-year-old biological son, Master Ugochukwu Destiny.
The arrest followed a report made to the office of the Abia State Governor’s wife, who then instructed the Ministry of Women Affairs to take immediate action.
The abuse, which took place at the father’s residence located at No. 27 Ugo Street, off Adaelu Road in Aba, was brought to light by a whistleblower.
Acting on the report, a team from the Ministry, led by the Director of Child Development, Mrs. Josephine Onulaka, on behalf of the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. Maureen Aghukwa retrieved the child from his school.
Speaking at the school, the Commissioner’s representative said that the rescued child will be taken into protective custody by the State government in line with the state’s child protection protocols.
She urged the members of the public to remain vigilant and to report any abuse of minors to her Ministry or to law enforcement agencies, pointing out that further investigations were initiated at the residence of the suspects.
In his a personal account, young Ugochukwu, who is a Basic 1 Pupil, narrated that he was repeatedly molested by his father, Mr. Ezechinyere Ugochukwu, and his (Destiny’s) stepmother, identified simply as Kelechi, crying that he was beaten with wooden stick and sharp ordeals by the suspects and left to suffer in pain.
