10-YEAR-OLD ACCIDENTALLY SHOOTS POLICE FATHER DEAD WITH SERVICE RIFLE IN ANAMBRA

Tragedy struck in Anambra State as a 10-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his father, Inspector Okolie Amechi, with a police-issued AK-47 rifle.
The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the heartbreaking incident on Monday, describing it as an accidental discharge. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the young boy was unaware that the rifle was loaded when he pulled the trigger, fatally striking his father in the back. The bullet also injured his sibling in the hand.
“Regrettably, Inspector Amechi was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty at the hospital, while the second victim is responding to treatment,” Ikenga said in an official statement.
He added that the AK-47 rifle involved in the incident has been recovered, and the remains of the late officer have been deposited in the morgue.
The Police Command extended its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased officer and expressed hope for the speedy recovery of the injured child.
