The Federal Government has closed its case against Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), after presenting its fifth and final witness before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Kanu is standing trial on an eight-count charge bordering on terrorism.
The fifth witness, identified as Mr EEE, a Department of State Services (DSS) officer based in Abuja, told the court he recognized Kanu only through media coverage and had never met him in person.
He testified that he led a team of operatives to southern Nigeria to gather records of incidents linked to the 2020–2021 EndSARS protests.
According to him, the findings revealed that 128 police officers, 37 military personnel, and 10 DSS operatives lost their lives during the unrest.

As well as 164 police stations and a total of 19 INEC facilities destroyed
Under cross-examination, Mr EEE admitted not being involved in the investigation of crimes allegedly committed by Kanu
He said he is not aware if IPOB is concerned with happenings in Lagos, Ibadan, Ile-Ife, etc
Mr EEE said he is not aware of the Lagos state judicial panel of enquiry on the End SARS protest, which did not implicate IPOB.
After the cross-examination of the witness, the federal government said the evidence and witnesses they produced are sufficient to prove their cases, and they will be closing their case.
Kanu Agabi, counsel to Mr Kanu, informed the court that the defence will be filing a no-case submission.
He asked for 14 days from 24th June for them to file.
Justice James Omotosho granted the defence team 14 days and the prosecution another 14 days to file their addresses
The matter was adjourned till 18 July, 2025, for adoption of written addresses in respect of no case submission.
