PRESIDENCY: EDUN, DANGIWA RESIGNED BEFORE CABINET RESHUFFLE
By Aishat Momoh. O.

The Presidency on Wednesday clarified that former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, voluntarily resigned their positions before President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced changes in the Federal Executive Council.
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency said both ministers submitted their resignation letters ahead of the cabinet reshuffle.
According to the statement, Edun, who turned 70 on Monday and had reportedly been facing health challenges, tendered his resignation on his birthday, expressing gratitude to the President for the opportunity to serve.
“It has been a pleasure and privilege to serve your administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Edun wrote, adding that under Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria had become “stronger, more resilient and more internationally respected.”
The Presidency further disclosed that Edun paid a valedictory visit to the President at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday, where he held a private meeting before stepping down to focus on personal matters.
Similarly, Dangiwa also resigned from his position, thanking the President for the opportunity to contribute to governance at the federal level.
President Tinubu, according to the statement, commended both former ministers for their roles in advancing the administration’s economic and housing reforms, describing their contributions as significant to the government’s policy direction.
Following their exit, the President directed the newly appointed Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, to consolidate ongoing reforms and drive fiscal and economic objectives with “renewed focus, discipline, and innovation.”
The Presidency also revealed that a nominee for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqha Rabe Darma, will be forwarded to the Senate for confirmation.
The clarification comes amid an earlier announcement of a minor reshuffle in the Federal Executive Council.
