A car reportedly plunged into the Ikpoba Hill River on Tuesday, causing panic among residents in the Ikpoba Hill area of Edo State.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred along the busy Ikpoba Hill axis when the vehicle suddenly veered off the road and crashed into the river.
Residents at the scene said bystanders immediately rushed to the scene in an attempt to rescue the driver after the vehicle went underwater.
According to witnesses, repeated efforts were made to persuade the driver to leave the vehicle, but he allegedly refused to come out despite appeals from those trying to save him.
The exact cause of the accident remained unclear as of the time of filing this report.
Authorities in Edo State had yet to release an official statement on the incident.
