The Lagos State University (LASU) Governing Council has approved the dismissal of Professor Olatunji Abanikannda and Dr Khadeejah Kareem-Ibraheem following serious allegations of misconduct, including inhumane treatment of students, sexual harassment, and financial impropriety.
The decision was made at the Council’s 143rd Statutory Meeting held on Thursday, July 3, 2025, after a thorough review of the findings and recommendations of the Joint Council-Senate Disciplinary Committee.
Professor Abanikannda, the Dean of the School of Agriculture at the Epe Campus, was found guilty of multiple offences, including the alleged subjection of 400-level students to inhumane conditions during their farm practicals.
He was also accused of sexually harassing female students, verbally abusing staff and students, and illegally collecting money from them — all actions deemed prejudicial to the university’s values and regulations.
Dr Khadeejah Kareem-Ibraheem, a Lecturer I and Coordinator of the Department of Animal Sciences, was dismissed for failing to follow approved university procedures during the Farm Practical Year (FPY).
She was also found to have withheld ₦10.6 million in proceeds from farm sales, which she kept in her personal account rather than remitting to the university.
The university described both cases as constituting “Serious Misconduct” under its Conditions of Service for Senior Staff (2017, as amended). Their dismissals take immediate effect from Thursday, July 3, 2025.
In a statement signed by Registrar Emmanuel A. Fanu, LASU reaffirmed its commitment to upholding integrity and discipline within the institution.
“We are LASU. We are Great!” the statement concluded.
