LAGOS GOVT ANNOUNCES COMMENCEMENT DATES FOR NEWLY ASSENTED LAWS

The Lagos State Government has announced the official commencement dates for several new laws recently passed by the Lagos State House of Assembly and signed into law by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.
According to a government statement, each law has been assigned a commencement date through official Commencement Orders issued on the same day as assent. The move is aimed at allowing sufficient time for public sensitisation, infrastructure development, and readiness for effective enforcement.
The following laws will take effect from February 19, 2025:
1. Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service Law (Commencement Order No. 1 of 2024)
2. Lagos State Law Enforcement Training Institute Law (Commencement Order No. 2 of 2024)
3. Human Organ Harvest and Tissue Transplantation in Lagos State Law (Commencement Order No. 3 of 2024)
4. Consumer Protection Agency Law (Commencement Order No. 4 of 2024)
5. Victim Assistance and Witness Protection Law (Commencement Order No. 5 of 2024)
Additionally, two other laws are scheduled to commence on August 4, 2025:
6. Local Government Administration Law, 2025 (Commencement Order No. 6 of 2025)
7. Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy Law, 2025 (Commencement Order No. 7 of 2025)
The State Government has urged all relevant Ministries, Departments, Agencies, stakeholders, and members of the public to take note of the commencement dates and ensure full readiness for implementation and compliance.
