The Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zacch Adedeji, has stated that embracing a population-focused strategy for tax administration is essential for enhancing efficiency, promoting innovation, and advancing national progress.

Dr Adedeji explained that recognising and motivating staff are key to achieving the organisation’s objectives and improving revenue performance.

He delivered his statements at the Annual Performance Award and Retiree Send-Off Ceremony recently conducted in Abuja.

The occasion celebrated exceptional employees and acknowledged long-serving retirees, illustrating FIRS’s dedication to appreciating its personnel.

“Each accolade, every handshake, and every public expression of gratitude represents an investment in our nation’s future,” he remarked.

He emphasized that acknowledgment is not solely ceremonial but rather a strategic investment, asserting that the development of an efficient tax administration commences with nurturing motivated individuals.

By recognizing both high-achieving employees and retirees, FIRS fortifies values such as integrity, professionalism, and commitment.

He remarked that these principles are vital for enhancing taxpayer engagement, increasing revenue generation, and fostering national progress.

FIRS has embraced the introduction of a performance assessment system that transcends mere revenue metrics.

The assessment also considers the quality of service to taxpayers, innovations introduced by staff, and the shared sense of mission within the Service.
